Part 2 of the New Year Quiz with years 2011 – 2020. I have tried to keep away from bad news and politics. It has been an interesting exercise. This time the answers are in the third comment below as I forgot to post them and there are some clues in the images.

- in 2013 the actor Peter O’Toole died. In which 1962 movie did he portray a british officer working in Arabia in the First World War. He failed to win a best actor Oscar although the film did get best picture and best director?
- In November 2014 the small module Philae made the first successful landing on a comet. It was launched from the space probe Rosetta after an 11 year journey. Rosetta is named after the Rosetta Stone that provided the key to understanding of what type of writing?
- in 2015 the author Terry Pratchett died. His Discworld novels have sold millions and are based in a fantasy world that is balanced on the back of four elephants who stand on the back of what other animal?
- 2016 saw the death of David Bowie, singer songwriter and actor. He adopted the surname Bowie as there was already a musician with his surname. What was his original surname?
- in 2017 The Walt Disney Company announced that it was to buy 21st Century Fox. The company was formed by Walt and his older brother in 1923. What was his older brother’s name?
- 2018 saw the death of Sir Roger Bannister who entered the history books by breaking a significant athletics record in 1954. What was that record?
- The Event Horizon Telescope is in fact an array of radio telescopes across the globe that in 2018 was able to publish a the first ever composite photo of what astronomical feature?
- Finally – in 2020 which comet could be seen by the naked eye, was closest to the earth in late July? Photo above by Declan Deval.
